My Story
“bless your cotton socks” is a term of affection to the recipient, and a name my late father used to call me as a little girl. I enjoy a bit of quirkiness now and then, so working with cotton and in honouring my father it seemed like the natural course of action to name my independent business ‘cotton-sox’.
Sewing was introduced to me by my grandmother who could always be found making something from scratch whether that was preparing a meal or sewing a garment. Times were tough then, and sheets that had worn thin were never thrown out, but rather patched, repaired, or darned. As my love for her grew, so did the love of her creativity grow within me. I have always been 'caught' trying new crafts, however, sewing has remained a constant for me. My cotton-sox range now consists of mainly handbags and accessories which are unique and generally one of a kind. My heritage has always been British, but my roots are ‘out of Africa’ and with this I incorporate in some of my designs the original and traditional Shweshwe cotton fabrics from South Africa which date back to the early 1820 settlers of the Cape.
All my products are proudly handcrafted by me with nothing being mass produced thus making them individual, unique statement pieces. Always paying close attention to detail from inception right down to the wrapping and posting of each item purchased. I would like my customers to have the ‘feel good cotton-sox experience’ from the first communication to execution, and finally to receiving their purchases.
I hope you will join me on my journey to turn cotton-sox into its own unique brand. All items are handcrafted by me in the region of Angus, Scotland, U.K.
Thank you for your interest shown in my work and “bless your cotton socks!”
